not a state of being.

It is a direction, not a destination.”

PHILOSOPHY

ABOUT ME

Sandy_Smile_500px.png

A choice to seek out therapy often occurs at a very difficult time, when you have become overwhelmed by painful events, life changes, or the pressures of your life. While I may be unable to move those mountains for you, I am here to support you as you climb. We all need a little help sometimes, and a space to be fully ourselves. Facing fears, healing from loss, navigating complex relationship difficulties or professional demands – these are among the inevitable tasks of life. I’ve learned from years of experience that even in these most difficult moments, we can reconnect with meaning and joy, and pave the way toward lasting change.

I am committed to providing treatment grounded in the best scientific evidence available and creating an affirming space for all.

I am a licensed psychologist in the state of Minnesota. I earned my PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Minnesota in 2013. I completed my predoctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center, where I specialized in treatments for PTSD and other trauma-related concerns. In my work at Hennepin County Medical Center, I developed a variety of services to healthcare providers and others struggling to maintain resilience in the midst of chronically high work demands.

I have advanced training and expertise in a variety of other areas, including couples therapy, CBT for insomnia, and mindfulness-based interventions. I am committed to providing highly effective interventions, grounded in the best scientific evidence available. My therapeutic approach integrates elements of cognitive behavioral, narrative, and acceptance-based strategies.

I also work from a perspective that is rooted in mindfulness. I have training in Mind-Body Medicine and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and have had a personal mindfulness practice, including yoga and meditation, for over 20 years, all of which informs my work.

"When I let go of what I am,

I become what I might be."

Good Faith Estimate Notice

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.
